The Importance of Replacing Your Windows

January 23, 2017

With so much on our daily agendas, it’s easy to neglect the little details in our home that need attention. Many Westlake Village homeowners don’t realize that each day they are passing a major issue in their home that could save them time, money, and peace of mind by fixing. Chances are, you may have the same subtle problem in your home, it’s your windows. When was the last time you stopped to examine your windows or even have them repaired? Many homeowners hold on to their old windows as an attempt to maintain some of the original character in their home, especially in vintage houses. Unfortunately, as much character as your windows may bring, they can also be bringing some major problems into your home. Here we will be discussing a few issues that can arise by not replacing your windows when it’s time to.

  1. Your Utility Bill Will Continue to Rise. If you have done your best to make your home more energy efficient, and you’re noticing no change (or an upward climb) on your monthly utility bill, your windows are likely to blame. Over time, some window materials have the tendency to warp due to weather damage. Eventually, these warps create drafts that allow a good deal of your heating and air conditioning to escape your home. Also, older windows typically feature single pane glass, which doesn’t do an efficient job of insulating your home. Save your money by switching to more energy efficient windows like vinyl windows with a double or triple pane glass.
  2. Your Home Will Be Less Secure. Outdated windows typically come with outdated security hardware that may be putting your family and your home at risk. The single pane glass that usually comes with older windows is incredibly thin, making it easy to break. Your windows are the easiest way for outside threats to enter your home, so it’s important that they are secure and thick enough to keep your home safe.
  3. You Will Continue to Hear Everything. If you haven’t changed the windows since you’ve moved into your home, you may believe that your noisy home is simply due to the area you live in. While outside noise may be a factor, your windows play a major role in how much of that noise actually enters your home. Windows with thicker glass do a better job of keeping outside noises like construction or traffic out. Restore the peace in your home by having windows with double or triple pane glass installed.

If you would like to avoid any of the above issues, it may be time to speak with a window professional. At Quality Windows our highly trained window specialists are ready to assist you through every step of your Westlake Village windows replacement.
