Replacement Windows—Preparing For Installation

January 24, 2022
replacement windows in Santa Barbara

Getting replacement windows in Santa Barbara, CA isn’t something that happens overnight. You are going to need to plan for the process so you have the budget you need available. You also have to choose all of the details of the windows you order. Once you have the hardest parts behind you, the installation needs to take place to complete everything you’ve worked hard to do. While you should have professionals do the installation, there are things you need to do ahead of their arrival so you can get everything set up well for the process to go smoothly. Here are a few such items.

Protect Fragile Items

You may have statues or other fragile items in your home and you are going to want to make sure those things are safeguarded. If they are sitting out in the open near a window, you’ll want to move them somewhere they can’t be knocked over and broken. Those items mean a lot to you and the installers certainly don’t want to ruin anything of yours on accident.

Clear Window Paths

Walk through your home and see what the paths are like. Go from the door to each window and see if the path is clear. If not, move items out of the way. The installers need to be able to walk through, but also to carry windows. It’s good to have items out of the way so you can ensure that there’s nothing that might trip them up or cause them to have to move anything themselves.

Lay Protection On The Floors

No one wants dirty boots tracking mud in over the carpeting. If you have carpet or other floorings you’d like to protect, there’s nothing wrong with laying some plastic down so you can protect the floors from anything that might come their way. Just make sure there aren’t items that they might trip over, like rugs that can fold up and become hazards.

Remove Wall Hangings

If you have pictures or artwork hanging on the walls that also have windows, you will want to take them down as the walls will be shaking when the demo occurs. Take those items down and lean them against walls that have no windows. You can also place them under the couch or under beds to protect them further.

Move Furniture Away From Windows

You might have a couch or a bed up against a window bank and that would keep the installers from getting to that area. Try to move those items away from the windows, even if they have to sit in the middle of the room, so the installation can take place with ease.

Take Down Coverings

Window coverings are going to be in the way when the installers are trying to put in the replacement windows in Santa Barbara, CA so you will want to take those down. Once they are down, you might consider trying to get something new to go over the new windows, but that’s a decision you can make after the installation as well.
